I'm back in Beijing and utterly exhausted and feeling rather down, as I always seem to for the first couple days here. I walked into my dorm room and was greeted by a stranger...while I was away a single room opened up and my roommate moved into it. I'm really sad about it. The new roommate seems fine....I have barely had a chance to speak with her much. Her name is Metta. But I was already comfortable with my old roommate and we could speak mandarin together. Anyway, since I might be going home early anyway, I asked the front desk lady whether there are any other free single rooms. She said she'll check, so I'll ask her again tomorrow. Probably there won't be anything, but oh well. Sigh. I'm a big baby.
Anyway, I had a really wonderful time in Vancouver with Scott and seeing my family and friends. Here's a few more pictures from my visit.
Scott's lab mate Marcel, and his girlfriend Lauren threw a silly hat party. Here's Marcel wearing a beanie and making bruschetta. Classic.
Me with some of Scott's labmates:The labmates attempting to look tough, but being foiled by beanies and colanders:
Here's a picture of Scott and me both looking super exhausted at the Vancouver Airport this morning. It was hard to say goodbye again, but because I know it's for an absolute maximum of four months (most likely more like three months), it was a teeny bit easier. I'm so looking forward to traveling everywhere together from now on!
